Ray grew up in both Honolulu, HI and Reno. He attended and graduated from Reed High School and the University of Nevada, Reno.

He has been coaching volleyball for 28 years which includes an eight year stint at Reno High School and 17 years at Sierra Nevada Volleyball Club as the club director. Ray saw his position change from an Undergrad Assistant to 2nd Assistant to Associate Head Coach during his time at Nevada from 2002-2009.

He then went on to the University of the Pacific from 2009-2013 as an Associate Head Coach and from there was named the head coach at Academy of Art from 2014-2017.

Ray spent a year coaching at NNJ in 2014 to which he returned to the club in his current position in 2017. Ray played for the men’s club team at the University of Nevada from 1992-1995 as a DS, setter and outside hitter. 



When asked a fun fact about himself, Ray responded with, “I used to have a 40 inch vertical believe it or not. Now I just play a lot of golf and am a big volleyball nerd.”
