Newberg Commits to Brandeis

A big congrats to Kaisa Newberg, who's given her commitment to play at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Kaisa has been a part of the NNJ family for the past 4 years.

When evaluating schools, multiple factors contributed to her decision to attend Brandeis. “The first time I spoke with Coach Vaccari over the phone, we had an instant connection. She was very open about wanting me to play for Brandeis University and her excitement was contagious. When I went for my official visit and talked to her in person the first time, the connection only grew stronger. Coach Vaccari said she had a plan for me and told me how excited both she and the assistant coach were to meet me after seeing my video. Once I spent time with the team, saw how close they all were, and witnessed the atmosphere the coach was working to build, it made me want to be a part of Brandeis Volleyball."

Kaisa not only was drawn to the volleyball program and the culture they are trying to build but also the emphasis on academics and the fact that you truly are considered a student first. "Another thing that drew me to Brandeis, and Division III in general, is the smaller size and focus on academics before your sport, which all the coaches understand. They want you to succeed both on and off the court. As far as the school itself, Brandeis is ranked as one of the top 35 national universities by US News & World Report. It has an amazing pre-med program and two of their professors were recently awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. After researching the schools that were recruiting me, talking to my college counselor and one of my teachers, we all decided that Brandeis would be the best fit. It has a team that I can’t wait to be a part of, a coach who I look forward to learning from, and academics that will push me and help me achieve my goals. Go Judges!”

The 5'11" middle blocker was also a Northern 1A All-League 2nd team selection this year for Sage Ridge High School. We wish you the best of luck at the next level, Kaisa!
